'That scary, cartoony thing was me two years ago... I've grown into fashion': Jessie J opens up about her style makeover as she poses for stunning shoot

By Sarah Bull

..She was once famous for her outrageous ensembles and crazy experimentation when it came to her hair and make-up.

But after sacking her former stylist, Jessie J can usually be found wearing more sophisticated, elegant outfits, saying she had initially needed a style to catch the public's attention.

The 24-year-old singer made the admission as she posed for a stunning photoshoot in Britain's Elle magazine.

Transformation: Jessie J has opened up about her style makeover as she poses for a stunning shoot in Britain's ELLE magazine

She said: 'That really scary, spiky, cartoony kind of thing, that was me two or three years ago.

'Now, I'm definitely more embracing of myself as a woman and my sexuality and just being a bit more feminine.

'I've always wanted to look like this, but it didn't grab people's attention. And in the beginning you've always got to do something that's going to make people go, "Who's that?" '

Leggy: The 24-year-old singer shows off her enviable figure in the shoot

And Jessie said she is so thrilled with her new look, that she is even hoping to use her fashion sense as she embarks upon a collaboration with designer Stella McCartney.

She said: 'I just spoke to her and we're hopefully going to work together soon. She's an incredible designer. There's one playsuit, black, white gold belted. I'm definitely growing into fashion.

'It’s about confidence. Maybe I was a bit scared. I was a bit insecure about my body, about being too grown up.

'But I was a girl and now I’m a woman and I want to make sure I enjoy it.'

Jessie also spoke about her personal life, and insisted that she isn't 'defined' by her sexuality and just wants to be with someone who makes her happy, whether that is a man or a woman.

She told Elle magazine: 'It's one of those things where they labelled me. Sexuality shouldn't define anyone. It doesn't define me.

'Love should be at the core of what you do. I'm only interested in finding love now.'
And when it comes to her relationships, Jessie said she 'definitely' sees marriage and children in her future.

She said: 'I definitely want to get married and have kids and it’s just about making sure that the person who I meet and that I do that with is right for me.'

Back in the day: Jessie has certainly come a long way from her first years in the industry

By Kirsty Mccormack

Getting the crowd going: Jessie J wears tiny denim hot pants to perform at Newbury Racecourse today

While singers such as Tulisa and Emeli Sandé have been busy entertaining the crowds at V Festival today, Jessie J took to the stage at a rather different event.

The 24-year-old wowed guests at the Newbury Racecourse Ladies Day and she certainly dressed up for the heat.

As she strutted the stage and belted out her well-known hits, Jessie wore a pair of tiny denim cut-off hotpants and fishnet tights - no doubt due to it being the hottest day of the year.

Quirky style: The singer completed her look with gold sequin baseball boots and funky sunglasses

The dark-haired singer decided to team her shorts with a black bikini top and a white sheer top that featured a silver heart print.

The Price Tag singer also accessorised her look with a pair of black leather and gold suspenders as well as gold sequin baseball boots.

Her dark hair was pulled back into two plaits and at one point, Jessie even donned a pair of funky purple sunglasses.

Having a rest? At one point the star was seen singing while on her knees

Singing her heart out: The dark-haired star tweeted that she had had an 'amazing day'

The British star certainly pulled in a big crowd at the event and made sure she put on a good show for them.

Following her performance, Jessie took to her Twitter page and wrote: 'Perfect way to end my 2012 Summer Shows in 30 degree heat dancing and singing with 20k people! Thank you Newbury for an amazing day :) x'

Jessie was no doubt still on a high following her various performances at last week's London 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony.

Do it like his brother! Jessie J parts ways with former stylist and undergoes feminine makeover courtesy of Reggie Yates' sibling

By Chloe Thomas

She bounced into the music charts singing about being able to ‘do it like a dude’ and revelled in dressing like one too with her jump suits, spiky jewellery and clumpy Doc Marten boots.

But pop star Jessie J has now ditched her trademark look, which she has admitted makes her look like a ‘cartoon character’, in favour of feminine couture.

The 24-year-old unveiled a dramatic wardrobe transformation when she performed a gig at London’s Roundhouse venue a few days ago.

New direction: Jessie J has reportedly stopped working with her old stylist and is now under the guidance of Reggie Yates's brother Cobbie

Wearing a shimmering Vivienne Westwood dress offset with matching strappy sandals, the singer couldn’t have looked more different from her edgy style of old.

She had also replaced her trademark stiff, black bob with flowing Hollywood-style hair extensions.

And neutral coloured make-up was applied in place of the heavy black eye shadow and overly bright lipsticks for which she is famous.

It is believed the 24-year old has decided to freshen up her style team and has parted company with her long-term stylist Karl Willet.

Growing up: The singer is now sporting a much more feminine look and has ditched the pale make-up for a full body tan

Mr Willet was in charge of Jessie’s wardrobe during her stint as a judge on the BBC talent show The Voice. Most recently, he also styled her latest music video: Lazerlight.

Stepping into his shoes is up and coming fashion expert Cobbie Yates, who is the brother of The Voice presenter and radio DJ Reggie Yates.

The Price Tag singer hired Cobbie after meeting him on The Voice, where he was on set to dress his brother Reggie, who co-hosted on the BBC talent show earlier this year.

New look: According to a source close to Jessie, she wanted the chance to grow and felt she looked like a cartoon character before

And it seems the new stylist is already working his magic with one fan congratulating him on Jessie's new look, to which he replied: 'thanks baaybe! It's not hard, she's a dream! miss you! X'.

Friends of the singer say that although she has worked with long term stylist Karl Willett for a while, she felt the time had come to reinvent herself.

The friend said: ‘Jessie has worked with Karl for a long time but she decided it’s time for a change and she gave him the elbow’.

Mr Willett is said to have put out an email last week confirming the pair had parted company, after long running rumours in the industry of a professional rift.

All change: Cobbie Yates was congratulated on his fine work by one of his Twitter followers

Earlier this year, the quirky star revealed that she had grown tired of her style and was keen for a change.

Speaking to Grazia magazine, she said: ‘I started to look like a cartoon character with the fringe and the cat suits. Yes, I want to change and mix it up. I want to change my hair, change my style. I want to be allowed to grow’.

And in the interview Jessie also admitted that she thinks her block black hair colour is a little too much.

Mission accomplished: Jessie looked the best she ever has when performing at The Roundhouse, last weekend

She said: ‘Maybe I’ll dye my hair a pastel colour or plum. I am thinking this black is too harsh’.

Last month it was reported that the singer would not reprise her role on the judging panel for series two of The Voice.

The Domino singer is believed to have quit due her forthcoming UK tour which is said to clash with filming dates for the second season of the BBC One talent series.

Mail Online contacted Jessie J's representatives for comment but they are yet to respond.

'She was advised not to come out': New book reveals Jessie J was told to tell fans she was bisexual rather than a lesbian

By Georgina Littlejohn

Jessie J is a lesbian who was forced to hide her sexuality to make her more 'trendy', a new book has claimed.

The shocking new publication says that The Voice coach was told by record bosses that she would be more appealing to fans if she said that she was bisexual rather than gay.

The unauthorised biography, written by Chloe Govan, adds that the pop star, who first realised she was gay at the age of 17, eventually went along with the plan but was 'incensed' by the decision.

'100% gay': A new book has revealed that The Voice coach Jessie J was forced to hide her sexuality from fans

In the book, entitled Jessie J: Who's Laughing Now, Govan writes that Jessie went along with the charade because she was scared of losing her record contract with Universal.

Govan said: 'Jessie might have been with boys in the past - but she is 100 per cent gay. Jessie was openly lesbian and didn’t hide it.

'She was advised not to come out, though. Certain people thought being bi was trendy, exotic and a fashion statement. It would increase her allure.'

Incensed: Jessie, seen here in the US last week to record her new album, went along with the lie but wasn't happy about it

Govan added that record bosses though her sexuality would 'alienate people' and asked her to tone it down a bit to save her image.

She added: 'There are so many homophobes out and there were fears of a career-damaging backlash.'

In March last year, Jessie, who has admitted to fancying Rihanna, revealed that she was openly bisexual and said: 'I've never denied it. Whoopie doo guys, yes, I've dated girls and I've dated boys – get over it.

'If I meet someone and I like them, I don’t care if they’re a boy or a girl.'

The book also talks about Jessie's medical condition Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome which can speed up the heart rate to four times what it normally should be.

She also suffered a stroke when she was 18 but never let it affect her life and took ballet lessons while wearing a heart monitor.

But she was also the victim of bullies when she was prescribed beta blockers that gave her skin a greenish tinge.
